COMPANY OR INDIVIDUAL DESCRIPTION/BIO:
The Alabama State Council on the Arts was created in 1966 with a strong belief that art and its practice benefit everyone, not just artists. Since then, the Council stimulates growth of the arts in its impact in Alabama by working with a wide range of arts organizations, individual artists, educational institutions, and communities. The purpose of the Council is to promote Alabama's artistic and cultural resources.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
The Council's website provides a large amount of important information for resident and non-resident artists. Artists can join the Artist Roster, after applying with the Council, an easy-to-access list of artists in the state created to connect artists and individuals. The Art Schools directory provides artists a comprehensive list of U.S. art schools. The Organizational Directory provides a list of available opportunities for artists to perform or exhibit their work. The website also provides artists information on how to receive grants as well as up-to-date Alabama arts news. The Council has a division called The Alabama Center for Traditional Culture. This division strives to preserve and present Alabama folk culture and to further an understanding of this cultural heritage. Also found at this website is a cultural events calendar for the state.
