The Maryland State Arts Council, founded in 1967, is comprised of seventeen members who assist in the development of the arts in Maryland. The mission of MSAC is to encourage and invest in the advancement of the arts for the people of their state. The goals of the Council are to support artists and arts organizations in their pursuit of artistic excellence, to ensure the accessibility of the arts to all citizens, and to promote statewide awareness of arts resources and opportunities.  MSAC's programs are aimed at benefiting all Maryland residents regardless of political or religious opinion or affiliation, marital status, race, color, creed, age, national origin, sex or sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, or geographic location within the State.

The Maryland State Arts Council’s website provides many links to other websites that are related to the arts in Maryland.  These links are to art centers, art service organizations, art festivals, employment opportunities, and other art resources, regionally and nationally.  Some of the different categories of art organizations links include children’s events, dance, folk and traditional art, literature, music, theater, and visual arts and media.  The website provides their newsletter online, as well as an online version of a Maryland art gallery.  There is information and deadlines for grants that are offered to individuals, organizations, and schools in Maryland.  Past grant winners can also be found on the website. The website also provides detailed information on some of the Council’s programs, including the cultural diversity arts registry, arts in education, and organizational development assistance.  There is also a visual artist registry that people can either search or add their own information.  The website also provided notes from past meetings and information regarding upcoming meetings that are scheduled.
